January Violets

Here is a beautiful new winner. It was the New Cultivar Choice for the show in 2007! Wasn't I lucky to find it!

This is Iceberg. I may be a little like Island Hideaway , but I lost that one and so I'm trying for a hardier one this time.

Here is a gorgeous fantasy! It is called First Kiss Blush. I hope a leaf will bring out the fantasy, too!

This is a Buckeye Blithe Spirit. Most of the leaves are variegated and this is no exception.

I had trouble capturing this one. It's Austin's smile and reminds me of Halo's Aglitter.

This one is a smaller blossom, but fun! It's called B-Man's Taormina. Each blossom seems unique. I'll see if each one develops more deep pink as it ages.

This represents a couple of my hobbies - propagating and raising African violets and photography. I have about 50 plants in my basement and here are the ones blooming now. I'm catching on to the lighting I need to best present my beauties. The last ones were my novice shots.

This is Plum Pudding. See the little sucker plant growing at the bottom of the three blossoms. I will try to save it to make a new plant.

This is a miniature African violet called Plumberry Glow. I love it when there are SO many blooms at a time. It's almost like a bouquet.

This was one of my first African violets. I call it Rainbow Connection. It has an unusual "bowl-type" blossom and blue fantasy on a white and pink petal. It is my grandest and in a 5 inch pot.

This is Ma's Midland Fantasy, a star with a blue center. (No, I didn't put it there. I only tried to enhance the effect.) This is a white star beauty.

Here is Banana Split, a double star and given to me by a dear friend who also enjoys African violets and introduced me to the hobby. Does it remind you of an ice cream treat?

This is my newest, Buckeye First Nighter. The Hybridizer is from Ohio and calls all of hers Buckeyes. Isn't that appropriate? You can see that this is still in a 2 inch pot. The blossom is a deep violet beautiful double star.

This one I call Alter Quiet Riot. This fantasy is opposite Quiet Riot, which is a blue flower with white.

Here is another favorite (actually they are all my favorites). Fantasy like this usually cannot be propogated by starting a leaf. I tried and got a beautiful blue with a white edge otherwise just like this!!

Blue Harbor is a lovely light blue single pansy with a darker center. I love that effect.

This is Midnight Plum, a richly dark violet star with a v ariegated leaf and very large blossoms.

Powwow is a double red with a festive white edging. It's one of my larger plants in a 4 inch pot.

Meet little Miss Natchurly Nawlins. Don't you just love the name? She's a double star and sports lots of delicate pink blossoms with a deep pink edge.
